Tension Climbing - The Block

New product

Updated for 2019 to be more durable and to diversify the edge offerings with an 8mm and 6mm edge!

The Block might be the single most useful block of wood ever made. Simply put, it’s a block of wood with an assortment of edges, pinches, pockets, and little crimps. Once you start using it you’ll realize that there is a lot more than meets the eye.

Compact & efficient for training / warm up

Great piece of equipment, allowing users to train with crimps and pinches. Small and light, being portable also means users can bring it to the gym for warmups or training exercises!

A better block of wood

I bought The Block to train my pinch grip strength, and before I just used a block made out of scrap plywood. I have not trained with the others, such as, the V-mobs or the Awesome woody pinch block. While the V-mobs is superior in terms of grip size options, I had chosen The Block because it was made out of poplar wood and Tension climbing said that poplar wood will season better with climbing chalk compared to other hardwood. My first impression was that The Block was slightly bigger in size than I expected, but I think that it is still small and light enough that I don’t see it weighting me down when I bring it along on future crag trips. In addition, it is easier to set up The Block compare to most of the other portable hangboards. While other portable hangboards often require an addition sling to girth hitch the tree branch and carabiner to clip in, I can simply girth hitch The Block with its cord around the tree branch because its small enough. I’ve also tried to warm up and train crimps using the 20 and 8 mm edges together, and also do pull ups by grabbing the whole block with no problem (I won’t recommend it to others as a long term solution though). In addition, The Block has angled incut edges in the middle has allowed me to train a wide range of pinch width, and the incut edge also makes closed crimps comfortable (not that I’m planning to train closed crimps).
